History
1998 was a notable year. John Howard was re-elected for his second term as Prime Minister, Mark Taylor equalled Don Bradman's record of 334 and Steve and Terri Irwin welcomed baby Bindi into the world. Out of the events of 1998, GMEC Solutions emerged, under the banner of G. Merkel Electrical, a "one man van" electrical company based in the inner suburbs of Brisbane. Director and owner, Glenn Merkel, took the step from the safe and secure career at the supply authority he'd been at for 8 years, including his apprenticeship, to enter the dynamic environment of the Brisbane electrical contracting industry.
Over the next 6 years, G. Merkel Electrical's client base, and inturn, its labour force grew organically until late 2005, when a constantly widening gap was addressed between G. Merkel Electrical's existing scope of knowledge and the growing demands of its current and potential customers. In a proactive effort to bridge this gap and embark on a strategy of multi-skilling, G. Merkel Electrical hired its first specialist data/phone technician, who also commenced an adult electrician apprenticeship.
This proved to be a successful move, with the company reaping the spoils of the communications industry and its employees enjoying the benefits of acquiring new skills and knowledge. This initiative of employing phone/data technicians continues into the present as G. Merkel Electrical in its current form sees the benefit of apprentices having well rounded training and experience.
By early 2006, with the electrical and communications sections working in tandem and the company's clients continuing to consolidate, it was decided that the G. Merkel Electrical Brand was no longer consistent with the organisation's direction and product offering. Three words were added to the company name, "and Communications Solutions", and along with a logo redesign marked the beginning of GMEC SOLUTIONS (GMEC).
Not only had G. Merkel Electrical/GMEC's client base grown, but so did the geographical coverage it was asked to severe, with works being completed along the entire east coast of Australia, and across Bass Straight into Hobart.
After a moderate company re-structure and strategic employment strategies, GMEC Solutions is in its current form. With data, communications and electrical experts in all four branch offices and fibre optic expertise in Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle, GMEC Solutions is well equipped to meet our customer's demands along the east coast of Australia, even serving corporate clients as far away as Perth.
GMEC Solutions has implemented a structure that allows it to meet the demands of current and future clients, while providing the personalised customer service and satisfaction that only a smaller organisation can provide. With dynamic and committed leadership combined with a satisfied and enthusiastic workforce, GMEC Solutions will continue to build on its strong reputation for customer service and satisfaction.
